Hot Drinks, Cool Art & Great Gifts!

MMM SUZANNE IMAGE

During this time of year our hearts turn to gathering with friends and relatives. That means our homes need to be guest-ready with new pillows, window treatments or bedding. Perhaps we personalize custom tablecloths, runners, napkins with an embroidered monogram; after all, #wedocustom.

We entertain and are being entertained, so hostess gifts and little special finds are on our lists, too! This holiday season the staff of Chrysalis Fine Fabrics is offering the community an opportunity to explore the work of local artists and artful gifts in an inviting Pop-Up Gift Shoppe.  We’ll have hot cider, coffee or hot chocolate and an assortment of muffins and such. You’re sure to warm up to what we have planned for you.

made to order…

Here at the store, we love our decorator fabrics and are constantly inspired to create new window treatments, bedding, pillows and headboards with special touches of designer trim, wallpaper, the occasional vintage chair or sofa, and more than likely, a perfect rug or two. As a matter of fact, we do custom almost everyday!

As you can see, the bedroom below has all the elements of great design, creating a comfortable yet sophisticated space. Grounding the large master bedroom with a textured rug from Dash & Albert is a perfect place to begin. The Alhambra Wool Tufted Rug is a Spanish-inspired pattern translated into a soft tufted wool rug. The crown moldings pop in white against the Sherwin Williams “blonde” paint.

A balance of textures, color and pattern throughout the room add interest, and the symmetry of the lamps and art add to the completed look. DSC_0155 Our own Danna Rutledge created this space making exquisite choices in fabrics, design elements and accessories. The room is a perfect example of what Chrysalis Fine Fabrics has to offer. The woven medallion Suncrest draperies in jute are ready-made panels mounted on custom painted Antique Drapery hardware using rings for easy closure for additional light control. The window treatments are both beautiful and functional; must-have features! The large gold dot fabric on the custom cushions repeat the circular motif in the panels and marry well with the two Chinese Chippendale side chairs.

A guest room received a special touch when Danna added euros and pillow shams. Note the creative use of button closures on the simple pillowcase design. Both fabric patterns (different scales) work beautifully with the blue comforter and coral mattelasse coverlet and shams. Again, the room is grounded with a stunning jute rug over hardwood. The Marco Red Jute Woven Rug has a soumak weave background and cut-pile pattern. Due to the handcrafted nature, some variation in the height of the pile is expected. The Dash & Albert rug is available in six (6) sizes and four (4) color combos. Note the adorable “Rocky” standing by his favorite rug…. and Sophie posing as if she was in a Dash & Albert ad! The new powder bath is a showstopper with our Halie Circle wallcovering in aqua from  Thibaut’s Enchantment Collection. DSC_0140 Roman Shades are trending in 2014 and this beautiful working shade adds simple sophistication to a guest room and privacy when needed. The swag valance on bamboo rods sit above a bankette with custom cushions, pillows and matching cushions on rattan chairs. The entire kitchen/breakfast area is pulled together cohesively with grasscloth wallcovering from Thibaut. DSC_0157

Sitting Pretty with Leticia Graves

Our talented staff is taking time this summer to create idea vignettes for you with a new series we’re calling SITTING PRETTY. We’ve just added a neutral sofa to the showroom and each person on staff will offer you a glimpse into their own unique design prowess. In this way, we take the intimidation out of using fine decorator fabrics in your home and encourage you to spark a few ideas that can be incorporated into your style.

I am Leticia Graves, better known as Letty. I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and graduated from The Interior Decorating Institute. I worked at an architect firm in Mexico City for four years doing residential and commercial decorating. When I married we moved to Clearwater, FL and I began working at a wallpaper store.  Once we moved to Tallahassee, I gained more 2013-06-12 17.15.32expertise while on staff at Wallpaper It Now, doing consultations and window treatments. When at home with our two baby girls, I created a home business, fabricating window treatments, pillows and other decorating projects.

As the girls grew old enough to be home alone, I re-entered the design world and am happily employed at Chrysalis Fine Fabrics. Here I found the perfect match for my passion for textiles and color. While working at Chrysalis, I continue to enjoy time in my home studio, perfecting the art of creating numerous types of window treatments. Although I find a diverse variety of styles in decorating appealing, I’m partial to more casual/modern fashion and rustic architecture. My hobbies, include spending time with family (Marcia & Julia now 18 and 15)painting, restyling furniture, and knitting.  I also love outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, and canoeing with my family – Marcie & Julia, now 18 and 15, and my husband Gary. I’ve thoroughly enjoy working here at Chrysalis Fabrics and have developed a tight bond with my work family, Suzanne, Krista, Susan and Danna. We have a great team!  2013-06-12 16.52.10 Here at Chrysalis Fine Fabrics & Furnishings, we recently began displaying a sofa for our SITTING PRETTY design series. With the new addition to our store, the staff will be taking turns designing the pillows, throws, and other accessories that complement a neutral background – offering you design ideas in colors and textures that may be used in your home. Reflecting my personal taste in casual design, I chose a cool palette of turquoises, greens, and tans, giving it a relaxed look for the simmering summer. Note the vintage side tables (reclaimed and repainted) and a beautiful and functional Dash & Albert rug. The round tablecloth and lamp compliment the cool colors and create a complete – cohesive design. This look is perfect for the casual room in your home or at the coast!
