Sitting Pretty with Leticia Graves

Our talented staff is taking time this summer to create idea vignettes for you with a new series we’re calling SITTING PRETTY. We’ve just added a neutral sofa to the showroom and each person on staff will offer you a glimpse into their own unique design prowess. In this way, we take the intimidation out of using fine decorator fabrics in your home and encourage you to spark a few ideas that can be incorporated into your style.

I am Leticia Graves, better known as Letty. I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and graduated from The Interior Decorating Institute. I worked at an architect firm in Mexico City for four years doing residential and commercial decorating. When I married we moved to Clearwater, FL and I began working at a wallpaper store.  Once we moved to Tallahassee, I gained more 2013-06-12 17.15.32expertise while on staff at Wallpaper It Now, doing consultations and window treatments. When at home with our two baby girls, I created a home business, fabricating window treatments, pillows and other decorating projects.

As the girls grew old enough to be home alone, I re-entered the design world and am happily employed at Chrysalis Fine Fabrics. Here I found the perfect match for my passion for textiles and color. While working at Chrysalis, I continue to enjoy time in my home studio, perfecting the art of creating numerous types of window treatments. Although I find a diverse variety of styles in decorating appealing, I’m partial to more casual/modern fashion and rustic architecture. My hobbies, include spending time with family (Marcia & Julia now 18 and 15)painting, restyling furniture, and knitting.  I also love outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, and canoeing with my family – Marcie & Julia, now 18 and 15, and my husband Gary. I’ve thoroughly enjoy working here at Chrysalis Fabrics and have developed a tight bond with my work family, Suzanne, Krista, Susan and Danna. We have a great team!  2013-06-12 16.52.10 Here at Chrysalis Fine Fabrics & Furnishings, we recently began displaying a sofa for our SITTING PRETTY design series. With the new addition to our store, the staff will be taking turns designing the pillows, throws, and other accessories that complement a neutral background – offering you design ideas in colors and textures that may be used in your home. Reflecting my personal taste in casual design, I chose a cool palette of turquoises, greens, and tans, giving it a relaxed look for the simmering summer. Note the vintage side tables (reclaimed and repainted) and a beautiful and functional Dash & Albert rug. The round tablecloth and lamp compliment the cool colors and create a complete – cohesive design. This look is perfect for the casual room in your home or at the coast!

Let us Introduce You to the Governor’s Daughter!

2013-03-07 14.04.20Those of you who have been “with us” for a good many years, know that we love to play dress up with our mannequin. It all began awhile ago when we were still in Betton. Our dear girl has played the role of everyone from Scarlet O’Hara to Queen Elizabeth; she’s been at Christmas parties, Open Houses, Art Shows, Charity events and more…. she hasn’t missed a single social gathering.

Now that our weather is warming and the new summer fabrics are rolling in, we decided to grab the bolt of gorgeous turquoise  eyelash satin and knew immediately that it must be her sassy skirt.

A little fringed bandeau from neutral linen and a couple of stands of beads and our mermaid  was ready for the sweltering heat and humidity and anxious for the beach!

Obviously, the handmade glass bead necklace is a pleasant surprise when you come to Chrysalis, but a wonderful Tallahassee gal makes these creations and we love them; our customers love them too!  Beautiful handmade creations from The Governor’s Daughter.

The Governor’s Daughter is named after the jewelry artisan’s grandmother, the daughter of the 28th governor of Florida. Not only was her grandmother beautiful inside and out, she was a picture of grace, poise and charm. The artist creates one-of-a-kind vibrant necklaces for the everyday run to the grocery store, out to dinner with college roommates and/or a wedding day. The lady has a blog that is dedicated to that passion as well as the desire to create other beautiful things and enjoy others work.

We have a nice selection of beaded necklaces in stock and ready for you to wear this summer or to give as gifts! Stop by soon at 1410 Market St., next to My Favorite Things.
